CIE Visit - Penzance/Long Rock Depot Extension - CHANGE OF DATE

Saturday 3rd February

The CIE are arranging a visit to the Penzance/Long Rock Depot to check out the  upgraded and expanded facility will – allow for the maintenance of the night Riviera sleeper to be undertaken in Cornwall; Support the planned introduction of a twice-hourly service on the Cornish mainline; improve the visual appearance of the depot and the surrounding area and provide  better facilities for the staff working at the location.

This visit will be co-ordinated by Nigel Blackler (Head of Transport at Cornwall Council). Time 9AM.

CIE Lecture - The York Potash Project

Thursday 15th February

Matt Wilmot, Chief Mine Planning Engineer at Sirius Minerals Ltd, will be delivering a talk on The York Potash Project:

The York Potash project is a new polyhalite mine located south of Whitby in North Yorkshire. The deposit has a resource of 2.66 billion metric tonnes and the proposed mine is being planned to produce 20 million tonnes per year. Located in a National Park, the mined polyhalite will be transported 23 miles underground on a high speed conveyor to the materials handling facility thus minimising the environmental impact. This talk will give an overview and state of play on the project.

This talk will commence at 6:00pm, and will be held in the Daphne du Maurier Lecture Theatre A, TR10 9EZ 

Cornwall Mining Sundowner

Thursday 22nd February

Every month a gathering takes place in Cornwall for anyone in the Mining, Minerals, Renewables and associated industries.  This usually takes place on the third Thursday of each month, with this month's Cornwall Sundowner taking place on Thursday 22nd February, 5.45pm onwards at The Trefusis Arms, Redruth. Please come along and catch up with people in the local Mining and associated industries. The more the merrier!

Bottle Matches - 2018

Saturday 24th February

The 2018 Bottle Matches will be held over the weekend of 23rd to 25th February and will be taking place in Cornwall at various venues, to be announced nearer the time.
